RACISM & VIOLENCE IN BADMINTON?

Reading the news today about racism and violence in sports, and I think back of my more than 50 years in Badminton has a player and coach and how rich it has made me in my social surroundings. I would never had black or religious friends if I would not have been in this sport, not because I don’t want them in my life but just because we would not cross pads in other parts of my social circles. Because of my sport my mind was set wide open for other looking/thinking people, and it made my life literally more colorful. There is hardly any violence in our sport and I can only record one time were players started a fight. Badminton is a sport were girls and boys, women and men are side by side in training and competition, creating respect for both genders. Parents who are select a sport for their children, should ask themselves “is this sport going to make my child a better person?” rather than “Can this sport make my kid to be number one”.  I have been coaching thousands of players in my lifetime some of them became very good players on International level but most of them did not, that is the same in every sport. I like to think that all the players I have coached still has one thing in common, they all became better persons in this great social and non violent sport we call Badminton.
