BADMINTON REFUGEES FROM EUROPE

31 oktober 2020 - Mỹ Châu, Vietnam

Second Lockdown (LD) this year in many countries, at the first LD many people thought it was just a flu and if the summer comes it will die out by itself, but it is not just a normal flu and it comes back very strong already in October. The winter has not even started and the problems already are over the top, now we are not only talking about not survisiand space in the hospitals but also nurses, doctors and other important people to run a hospital. Very carefully leaders start to prepare us for a very hard and difficult winter with a lot of restrictions for everyone.

Badminton players getting ready for (maybe) the 2021 Olympic games will have serious problems getting the training and competition they need in Europa while in Asia there are far less problems and players can follow a perfect training program and can play all the games they Want. Already in the spring 2020 I made a proposal for badminton Europe to start and be ready with a badminton center in Asia, so they could send the players in a training program outside Europe to make sure they were well set up for the next Olympic games.

The very best players will find a way to do their training but what about the youth talent they will not have all the facilities that the top players have and they will fall further and further behind on the youth players in Asia. Last week the first organisation contacted me and asked about a 3 month training program in Vietnam for a small group of talented players. Even if they have to be in Isolation for 10 days they still have 80 days training left with the option to make an extension for another 3 months. Training in Vietnam is cheaper than in Europe, the know-how is at Danish Elite level and there are no restrictions due to C-19.
