DANISH COACH EDUCATION IN NL

29 januari 2020 - Gia Tân 2, Vietnam

For years we have been trying to help Badminton Nederland with plans for the future, we have made several proposals and not one of them has made it into reality. So for the last 5 years we have been putting our own plans to work within our own organisation to give inspiration and know how to badminton players and coaches in Holland and the rest of the World.

The basic thought about our plans is that if you want your national federation to grow you need to make sure that you have the best coach education system possible. When you look at the development in Denmark you see that first of all the Deens refused to use the European SL system which they thought was way lower than their own system (at that time the DBF 1, 2 and 3). This very strong education system made sure that Denmark has a lot of extremely good coaches and are able to produce World class players time and time again for the last 70 years.

The downwards spiral in Holland begone with the introduction of the SL system, where you learn very little to nothing about the badminton sport and more about the organisation, but what is there to organise if you know nothing about the sport itself? Five or six years ago Badminton Nederland asked a big group of people to come to a meeting where we would talk about the future development of our sport it was a very good initiative I thought and in the end EVERYBODY agree that something needed to be done about the coach education in Holland. Some ethemphes has been made by the technical Director and/or national coach but nothing serious came out of it. And in the lost years the federation lost respect from the club members and kept on going downwards, the federation is now nothing more than a little shadow of it former self. The other organisation in Holland to work with coach education is the VBO  and together with BN also this organisation slowly lost grip on a strong vision of how and what a good coach should look like and what is needed to make sure Holland get’s back on the international stage again.

We now see that the VBO is getting a stronger vision of the technical direction in coach education and they can see the need for change also within their own organisation. When you want an organisation to become stronger you need to create an environment where young people feel at home and been taken serious and the VBO is just doing that at this moment. There are now a small group of new people joining the VBO in the board and on the technical side, and for the first time in many years I feel something is going to change for the good in Holland. The first small step is made within the VBO, and the reactions are positive about coach education Danish style.

The VBO need people who are willing to help  out making our sport great again, they need people on the board and people who are willing to join the thinking tank has members of the VBO or even more has volunteer. I believe that being in the VBO at this moment you are a part of shaping the future of badminton in Holland, in September  2020 the new coach education Danish style will start make sure you know all about it and contact the VBO.
